Mr. Thompson Begins to offer free lessons after school

Starting this week Mr. Thompson will be offering lessons after school to students that are interested in the help. He began providing a sign up sheet for members interested in working privately or in small groups. Lessons will be provided in 20-30 minutes blocks of time. "I hope this provides motivated students an opportunity to improve their skills. Private instruction can be expensive, but I believe that it is an invaluable resource for younger players so I am offering them without cost to the members." Interested students should find the sign up sheet outside his office at the HS Bandroom.

Marching Band Prepares for Prelims

This Saturday the Patriot Band and Guard will be performing in Indiana State School Music Association Scholastic B State Prelims. They will perform at 1:23pm at Plainfield HS.

ISSMA created a new marching band classification system for this year. In the past all schools were placed into classes A, B, C, or D based on their school size (much like athletics). Unlike athletic teams however there were no limits in marching to the size of the groups big or small. As a result the system has made mismatches with some bands in a class marching 20 to 30 students while another school in that same class may have 120-130 performers. The system has to this point favored larger groups which, are able to generate more musical and visual effect with their larger numbers.

ISSMA has now split this system into to two distinct classes: Scholastic Class and Open Class. Open class will remain true to the original classification system based on school size. Scholastic Class is broken into two groupings:

Scholastic A consists of bands from schools that have 976 or more students in the school that have less than 120 performing members in the marching band.

Scholastic B consists of bands from schools that have 975 or less students in the school that have less than 60 performing members in the marching band.

Owen Valley falls into the second category and will perform at their first Scholastic Prelims this Saturday! Groups that score over 54 points at Prelims will make it to Scholastic Finals. Good luck OV!

Playing Poolside

Warmer than the Atlantic and there is an Orca Fin water feature! Next up, pizza.

Checking In

Beautiful suite style rooms. Happy to see a shower and a bed!

Ron Jon!

Weather got a little windy at the beach as a storm front came in. We all made it back safely on the bus and have headed into Ron Jon's Surf Shop. Every thing beach you can imagine and there is even a live band!

Cocoa Beach

Beach Picnic

We've arrived! A little slower than scheduled but it is 82 degrees and the sun is starting to peak out. They served grilled chicken, burgers, dogs, potato salad and baked beans all of it delicious. Off to the beach.

Breakfast in Valdosta

Bleary eyed from a long night. We stopped short of the Florida border in Georgia for breakfast. It rained all night and it is still wet, but it is a warm wet and not a snowy wet like back home!

Rest stop in Tennessee

Just stopped across the Tennessee border. Two states down! The buses also have satellite so we're watching the Butler game.

On the road

After loading up and meeting our tour escort Vicky, we took attendance and headed out. The buses are nice (they even have wifi) and our driver seems pretty funny. Next stop the Sunshine State!

Winter Percussion at State Finals

Winter Percussion came to Ben Davis HS for IPA Concert A State Finals. Performing their show entitled "Oye Como Va", they placed 5th. Congrats to them and their staff members Ben Handel, Jason Bucy, and Nathan Cobel.
